PACK FOR A PURPOSE

El Progresso Community School

El Progresso Community School was founded in September 1997, a single building in a small refugee community. Today, El Progresso village has an approximate population of 800 to 1000 residents. Mr. Brian Watson, an American national, had led the school as principal for six years, before passing the position to current leader, Mr. Timoteo Canto, in November 2021. This change occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, so the transition from full time teacher to head principal came with many challenges and responsibilities.

Today, approximately 125 students populate El Progress Community School, along with 8 teachers sharing the responsibility of educating the bright children of their booming community. El Progresso is mainly an agricultural community, children are taught the essentials of farming at
a young age. Prior to the pandemic, faculty and staff had pushed towards a dedicated Agriculture Course to be offered on campus, however these goals were delayed due to the global pandemic.

In January 2022, the school decided to welcome students back for face to face learning. Months prior, assignment packages were being distributed to homes, as virtual online classes were not easily accessible to all students of the community. Educators at primary and pre school level are highly passionate about teaching the new generation of their developing community. Gaia Riverlodge has recognized this quality and carefully selected a neighboring educational center which we feel will greatly benefit from assistance. We got to visit and spend time with the bright youngsters of this community, it creates a feeling of warmth, to see the level of appreciation for even the smaller things. Gaia has taken the initiative to donate some agricultural tools, such as lawnmower, along with volunteering staff assisting regularly to help with maintenance and development of their campus for a safer and healthier learning environment.

This is the first step taken towards other forms of assistance we see necessary for the children of this small, but progressive community. We want to make learning easier by providing essential educational tools, along with safety and comfort to the children of El Progresso, these children all deserve a fair chance towards their education. It is our mission to assist the children of this community by joining the Pack For a Purpose campaign, allowing our guests to also lend a small support which goes a tremendously long way in the hearts of these children.
