Gaia Riverlodge

Thank you for your interest in Gaïa Riverlodge.

We’re dedicated to make every detail of your stay with us unforgettable. In Belize, travelling by air, boat or ground is part of the journey during which you can appreciate amazing landscape, crystal-clear water, and cute villages.

The international airport is about halfway between Matachica and Gaia, which means that you can easily combine both destinations during the same trip. You can either start by the jungle or the beach: the travel between the two locations will be facilitated by Tropic Air – a local airline company – and a devoted staff that will be there to pick you up at any given time.

Don’t worry: We take care of everything. For our experienced team, putting these together is simple and a pleasure. So no worries-let us handle the details!

Reaching Gaia

Gaia Riverlodge is located in the heart of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, located approximately 1-hour drive from the nearest twin towns of San Ignacio/Santa Elena. This remote area is popularly known for its rivers & creeks, mountain scenery, impressive waterfalls, cave systems and the famous archeological site, Caracol. The location allows you to experience Caribbean Pine Forest as well as Broadleaf Jungle.

The drive from the Belize International Airport (Belize City) to Gaia Riverlodge is approximately 3-hours, with one hour on the unpaved road. Transfers can be arranged directly with the lodge, via reservations, at info@gaiariverlodge.com.

Of course, you also have the option of renting a vehicle and taking the adventure of driving in Belize. Given our location, we do recommend a 4WD vehicle with high-ground clearance. We will be happy to e-mail driving instructions and a map.

From Matachica to Gaia (or the other way around)

Traveling from the Matachica Resort to Gaia is easy since Belize is such a small country. The forty-five minute flight will take your breath away as you fly over coastline and the farms and mountains of western Belize. You might have a stop or two as the plane drops off or takes passengers on board, but you’ll quickly make your way to the Maya Flats airstrip in the Cayo District where a member of our staff will pick you up. The drive to Gaia is a one-hour guided tour of San Ignacio town and the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve, and your driver, typically a certified guide, will be happy to share his local knowledge with you. You might even consider a stop along the way to enjoy a hands on Mayan chocolate or tortilla making or the art of Mayan ceramics in one of our local Mayan villages!

We know you’re coming from far and you can be assured that the trip will become a part of your adventure in Belize. It’s one of the perks of choosing such a diverse country!

As soon as your trip is planned, let us know all the details so we can make sure one of our guides and drivers is there to welcome you.

Sincerely,

The Matachica Team
